“Angels”. Set of 2 engravings. FIRST/ONLY STATE. Engraver unknown, but possibly Gerard de Jode; after Marten de Vos (1532-1603). Published by Gerard de Jode (signature), 1585. Ref: Hollstein 765. This set of 2 plates with six angels altogether: Michael the Archangel, Uriel, Raphael, Teadkiel, Piel, and Mittaron. Images irregularly cut, from just inside to just outside the plate line (see pics); and mounted onto heavier laid paper, 11.25″ x 8.0″. With margins, 13.5″ x 10.5″. Other than the irregular cuts, images are clean and sharp, very bold impressions, highly detailed. Fine examples of Old Master Netherlandish engravings in its heyday. Framed, 20″ x 14″ in matte black metal, with hinged archival mats, plexiglass, conservation backing. Ready-to-hang! COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature, affixed to the back of one of the frames. Pictures show framed engravings in different settings.
