Description

2 CORINTHIANS 2:16-7:12. “The Sweet Sway” (5:21). Printed in Basel, Switzerland, by Johann Froben, October 27, 1495. Octavo size: 5.75″ x 4.25″. One of the very earliest printed octavo Bibles, as handy for travel as the popular “pocket bibles” of the 13th century. Reference: Goff B598; GW 4275. Ruled in Red. With 5 hand-painted initials in RED and BLUE. FINE condition. Smeared notes at lower margin, obverse; small hole at bottom two lines; small work streak to upper inner margin (see pics). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature. Includes “Origins of the Vulgate Bible” with an English translation of important verses. Text expresses Paul’s understanding of his, and our, high-calling as the risen Christ’s representative, and thereby the “righteousness of God” — hidden to the world as this may be (5:21). This understanding of Christ’s work in us has been winsomely called “the sweet swap.”
