One of the very earliest printed octavo Bibles, as handy for travel as the popular “pocket bibles” of the 13th century. Reference: Goff B598; GW 4275. With 4 hand-painted initials in RED and BLUE. EXCELLENT condition. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature. Includes “Origins of the Vulgate Bible” with an English translation of important verses. Text promises a “servant” who will fulfill God’s promise to Abraham (Gen 12:3), not just to release Israel from Exile but to “save” all the nations of earth. Is 49: 1-6 is the 2nd of the 4 Isaiah “Servant Poems”.
