ISAIAH 37:27-41:23. “Comfort, Comfort My People” (40:1). Produced and Illuminated on fine, creamy vellum, in Italy, c.1230-1250. Uncut, with full headings and margins. Size: 6.875″ x 4.75″. With 4 scrolling initials in alternating Red and Blue pen, and the unusual rubricated “capilt” next to some, not all, chapter numerals. Contemporaneous marginal notes. In EXCELLENT  condition, very finely written, very delicate, w. 50 lines per column and 11 lines per inch (unusually dense); see pics. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. gold seal. A fine example of an early “pocket bible” or traveling Bible. Text includes the highly significant Ch 40, the beginning of “Second Isaiah,” and is translated (40:1-8) within the “Origins of the Vulgate Bible” opposite the COA. Text declares that God is about to release the captives of Israel from Exile in Babylon with the commanding leitmotif “Comfort.” Sets in a museum-quality Trifold Portfolio.
