PSALMS 118:1-119:60 [Eng. numb.]. “God’s Marvelous Love” (119:46). Handwritten and Illuminated in Paris, France, c.1240. Ms. size 7.6″ x 5.6″. Uncut, unpaginated, without headings or Chapter divisions, on fine vellum, with original ruling and prickling. Gothic textura script. Fine penwork and scrolling, alternating in Red and Blue. 9 Large initials and 83 smaller initials. Full margins. EXCELLENT condition. Light to moderate soiling to binding’s inner edge (see pics). Text begins with Psalm 117:1 at the large initial “C”, recto. Psalm 119 begins at the large initial “B”, recto. Note that the original scribe had omitted 118:38-40 (see the added notation “a” just before the large initial “E”, verso), and the correcting scribe inserted them at the end of the column (see the added notation “b” with the added 4 lines). The text extolls both the steadfast love of God (Ps 118) and the written Torah (Ps 119). Manuscript and COA set in a museum-quality Bifold Portfolio.
