Description

1 SAMUEL 8:1-10:8. “Israel Demands a King” (Ch 8). Produced and Illuminated on fine, creamy vellum, in Paris, France, c.1250. With full headings and margins but a shaved lower margin (see scrolling), evidently cut for rebinding then painted edges to protect the pages from the elements; edges painted red. Size: 6.5″ x 5″. Three scrolling initials in Red and Blue, alongside the columns. In EXCELLENT+  condition; see pics. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. gold seal. A very fine example of a “pocket bible” or traveling Bible. Text recounts the exact moment in Israel’s history when they demanded a king “like other nations” to which the LORD replies that Israel has in this way “rejected” their true king — God himself. The way back for Israel had to await her messiah (anointed one), Jesus of Nazareth, king of the Jews, whom they also rejected. For larger manuscripts, see the “Bifold Portfolios” category.
