Description
ECCLESIASTES 2:23-4:[unknown]. “To Everything a Season” (3:1). Bible fragment. Handwritten and Illuminated in France or England, c.1250. Fragment size: 6.25″ x 4.25″ [orig. approx. 10.5″ x 7.5″]. This uneven fragment was repurposed in the binding of another book. On Vellum. Red penwork initials and scrolling. Ink to Chap. III (3) has deteriorated so that it now looks like Chap II (2), the middle stroke having been in another color (possibly gold) now gone. Altogether in POOR condition but lettering on recto side still readable, 2:23-3:3 entire. Lettering on verso side unreadable to me, most likely from Ch 4. The text is a sober account of the human condition. Manuscript, COA, and “Origins of the Vulgate Bible” with Ecc. 3:1-3 in English translation are set in a museum-quality Trifold Portfolio.
