ISAIAH 27:21-30:4. “God’s Strange Work” (28:21). RARE FIRST EDITION. Biblia Latina. Printed in Nuremburg by Anton Koberger, 1475. Folio, 15.7″ x 10.7″. With 3 Handpainted Capitals, in Red and Blue; and rubricated throughout. Leaves are a beautiful creamy color, on very heavy vellum-like paper. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper. SUPERIOR+ condition (see pics). This rare edition is the FIRST of Koberger’s Bibles, the FIRST Bible printed in Nuremburg, the 18th printed Latin Bible, and the 23rd printed Bible — ever! Only 104 copies of this Bible are recorded extant!!

Text includes the stunning and often baffling doctrine, that many of God’s works (as in 28:18-21) are all too often “strange” and “alien”  (to us) when compared to God’s otherwise “comforting” words as in 40:1. Luther used this text in support of the distinction he saw between God’s (condemning) Law and God’s (merciful) Gospel. For smaller incunabula leaves, see the several Biblia Sacra under “Bifold Portfolio”.
