With 3 Handpainted Capitals, in Red and Blue; and rubricated throughout. Leaves are a beautiful creamy color, on very heavy vellum-like paper. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper. SUPERIOR- condition; small light stain to outer margin, and very small spots to inner margin (see pics). This rare edition is the FIRST of Koberger’s Bibles, the FIRST Bible printed in Nuremburg, the 18th printed Latin Bible, and the 23rd printed Bible — ever! Only 104 copies of this Bible are recorded extant!!
Text includes verses made famous in Handel’s “Messiah”: “To us a child is born . . . and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (9:6). Text is also famous for verses used by many churches in commissioning rites: “Whom shall I send? . . . Here I am, send me!” (6:8).
