Description

JOB 36:31-39:26. “God Speaks Out of the Whirlwind!”. FIRST EDITION. Printed in Geneva by Rouland Hall, 1560. Translated by W. Whittingham, et.al. Reference: Herbert 107. The earliest English Bible printed [both] in Roman type and with verse divisions.  GOOD+ condition; leaf was professionally repaired to upper margin and first two lines of text using a suitable facsimile on laid paper, nicely done; light to medium soiling (see pics). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. gold seal. The repair notwithstanding, this leaf is exceedingly rare! Just once in 13 years have I seen a genuine 1560 leaf offered — there have been many claimants, however. In this leaf, Job gets a strong rebuttal from the Lord against his whining, and God demands answers from Job to justify himself. Against this withering questioning from the Creator, no one can stand — the critical moment for Job, as for us (under the Law).

Original Leaf and COA set in a museum-quality Bifold Portfolio. Facsimile of 1560 title page included.
