Description

JOHN 1:1-33. Title. “In the beginning was the Worde . . .” (1:1). With LUKE 24:8-53. FIRST EDITION. Printed in Geneva by Rouland Hall, 1560. Translated by W. Whittingham, et.al. Reference: Herbert 107. The earliest English Bible printed [both] in Roman type and with verse divisions. FINE condition; headlines very slightly shaved; general light to medium soiling, recto; small cut to bottom edge (see pics). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. gold seal. Leaf is exceedingly rare! Just once in 13 years have I seen a genuine 1560 leaf offered — there have been many claimants, however.

In this leaf, John proclaims Christ as God-in-the-flesh, in surprising fulfillment of all of God’s promises to Israel. Nicely coupled with the ending of Luke’s Gospel — the resurrection message and commission, and the resurrection appearances, proclamation of forgiveness of sins, and the promise of power (to do all these things) in the name of Jesus Christ. THE premier leaf in the New Testament! Exceedingly rare.

Original Leaf and COA set in a museum-quality Bifold Portfolio. Facsimile of 1560 title page included.
