Description

“Hagar and Ishmael Saved by an Angel of God”. FIRST/ONLY STATE, w. monogram, dated 1563. Based on the story of Abraham and Sara expelling Hagar and Ishmael, Genesis 21. Conceptual Artist: Cornelis Bos, c.1555. Engraver: most likely Monogrammist HP with dagger, identified as Heinrich Paludanus in the school of Frans Floris. Publisher: unknown. Ref: Nagler Monogrammisten, #1331, p. 525. Few works of this monogrammist survive. See his “Allegory of Caritas” in the National Museum in Warsaw.
