Description

GALATIANS 1:1-19 Title + 2 CORINTHIANS 12:7-13:14. “The Gospel of Christ” (1:7). FIRST EDITION, FIRST VARIANT. The Great “He” Bible, the original, uncorrected variant. Printed and published in 1611, in London, by Robert Barker. The “He” variant only had 1611 titles whereas the “She” variant had both 1611 and 1613 titles. Census: about 175 “He” and 450 “She” Bibles extant. Experts disagree whether the “He” and the “She” should count as a single edition with two variants, or as two distinct editions. Ref: Herbert 309. All 59-line folio leaves (1611 He, 1611 She, 1617, 1634, 1640) are interchangeable, so buyer beware. Nonetheless, each leaf can be determined with certainty.

FINE- condition; nice margins (16″ x 10.25″ — see full page pics); lightly stained in parts; outer corners worn and creased with small hole to lower corner; repaired half-inch closed tear to outer edge (see all pics). With 2 WOODCUT initials, the large “P” initial inhabited w. two nymph-like creatures. Galatians is Paul’s most fiery letter in which he reasserts his apostleship and the one true gospel of Christ. The 2nd Corinthians text contains Paul’s famous “thorn in the flesh” of which Christ says: “My grace is sufficient for thee” (12: verses 7 and 9). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. signature and seal. Leaf and COA set in a large, museum-quality Archival Booklet. Includes Priority Shipping.
