Description

ISAIAH 9:18-11:11. “The Wolf and the Lamb” (see 11:6). FIRST EDITION. Known as The Great “She” Bible, the “Queen” of 1611 Bibles. First editorial correction of the original, uncorrected “He” variant, differing chiefly in obscure spellings, word spacing and woodcuts. Census about 175 “He” and 450 “She” Bibles extant. Printed in 1611 (and immediately thereafter) and published 1611-1613, in London, by Robert Barker, according to extant title pages. Experts disagree whether the “He” and the “She” should count as a single edition with two variants, or as two distinct editions. Reference: Herbert 319. All 59-line folio leaves (1611 He, 1611 She, 1617, 1634, 1640) are interchangeable, so buyer beware. Nonetheless, each leaf can be determined with certainty.

FINE condition (see pics), 15.25″ x 10″; upper quadrant w. marks where once folded; small cuts to far edges. With two (2) WOODCUT initials; 1 inhabited with three creatures. This important section of Isaiah, known by scholars as “First Isaiah” (Ch 1-12), was written c.675 BCE and contains oracles on Israel’s future.  In 10:33-11:9, Isaiah sets out the course for Israel, based on her trust in the power of her God. The oracle is far-reaching, not only for the history of nations but for creation itself (which ties in to Isaiah 65-66). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. signature and seal. Leaf and COA set in a museum-quality Archival Booklet with archival sleeves. Includes Priority Shipping.
