The Last Judgment. First State. 1580. Hollstein 621.1 (de Vos); possibly a second state but the Visscher edition is listed in Hollstein as the second state. This powerful engraving, from a scene in Matthew 25, was added by G. de Jode to a series titled “The Mercies of Christ.” Conceptual artist, Maarten de Vos (signature). Engraver, Antonius Wierix. Publisher, Gerard de Jode (signature). Clean and sharp impression on uncut laid paper. Crease to bottom margin just into the caption; two small creases and a small cut (repaired) to upper margin just touching the upper plate; repair and edge reinforcements to back in margin spaces. Image 9.5″ x 8.25″. With full margins 13.5″ x 11″.
