ROMANS 3:25b-5:13. “Justified by Faith Alone”. Biblia (The Great Wittemberg Bible), 1536. German. Martin Luther, trans. Printed in Wittemberg by Hans Lufft. Woodcuts by Lucas Cranach. The 3rd edition of Luther’s Bible, nearly identical to the 1st edition of 1534. Reference: DM 4202. Three (3) woodcut initials. Size: 11.5″ x 7.75″.  FINE condition; light soiling or stains (see pics). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper w. gold seal. Leaf and COA set in a large Bifold Portfolio. A nice example of a very early Luther Bible leaf, with a central leaf from Romans, citing Paul’s doctrine of “justification by faith [alone]” where Luther famously adds “alone/allein” to the Greek in translation, emphasizing the central role of faith in making a person “right” (or “justified”) before God. Text also includes Paul’s famous chapter on Faith, modeled after Abraham.
