Description
Thesaurus Novi Testamenti. 1585. New Testament Title Page to Gerard de Jode’s monumental Thesaurus Sacrarum historiarum Veteris et Novi Testamentum, published in 1585. De Jode is likely also the engraver. Just nine (9) copies are extant in the world (partial and whole), some of them fabulously colored or and/or illuminated. The title contains four cartouches with figures from Isaiah 9, Jeremiah 33, Matthew 12, and Acts 2 — together a summary of the Gospel. Engraving: clean and sharp impression; uncut with wide margins on laid paper, very lightly toned; minor wrinkles to left edge and scattered small cuts to the bottom edge. Image 11″ x 7.5″; with margins 14″ x 10.75.” Many of the engravings on this site come from de Jode’s Thesaurus.
Engraving and COA set in a museum-quality Bifold Portfolio (landscape) of linen cloth and silk moire, within archival sleeves; COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature.
