Biblia Sacra (Latina), Leaf sizes: 9.4″ x 6.6″. printed in Venice by Johann Herbort, de Seligenstadt, 30 April 1484. Ref: Goff B580. 16 hand painted initials in RED & BLUE. EXCELLENT condition overall w. minor smudges and light stains; Gen 1 leaf w. small worm hole to upper margin. Contents and COA on premium “gold leaf” papers. Set in a museum-quality Super-Portfolio (12″ x 9.7″, opens like a book so that both sides of each leaf are seen). Cover in black linen fiber, lining in burgundy silk moire. Leaves preserved in the finest archival sleeves, as recommended by the Library of Congress.
Leaf-set includes a “Creation!” engraving after Raphael, c.1650-1700; and a print photo of “Earth” from Kevin Kelly’s “The Home Planet”. The first few leaves of Genesis, which are often not preserved or in such excellent condition, contain arguably the most significant stories pertaining to the earliest human civilizations.
