Conceptual artist, Maarten de Vos (signature), but probably inspired by a 1516 woodcut by Lucas Cranach. Engraver, Antonius Wierix. Publisher, C. J. Visscher (signature). Engraving measures 11.5″ x 8″ on uncut laid paper, with wide margins 14″ x 10.5″. Clean and sharp impression with many subtleties. A stunning engraving of the cousin and forerunner of Jesus, “preaching a baptism of forgiveness for the forgiveness of sins.”
