Description
MATTHEW 1:1-3:17 + NT TITLE. “The Birth of Jesus”. 2 Leaves in this set. Printed in London by Norton and Bill, 1621 [M.D.C.XXI.]. Quarto size: 8.4″ x 6.4″. Reference: Herbert 379. FINE condition overall; light to moderate smudges and overall ageing. Doodles at the headline of Matthew 1, in part reading “the generation of Christ”. Ink smudge to top margin of the NT title, and extensive doodles on the reverse side including “Richard Graves his Book” (see pics). The Matthew 1 title leaf is very often torn away, so an intact one coupled with an intact NT title leaf makes this an outstanding leaf-set. Text includes the conception of Jesus (Ch 1), Herod’s slaughter of innocents (Ch 2) , and the initial preaching of John the Baptist (Ch 3). Note: there is no COA since the Title is self-authenticating. Sets in a museum-quality Bifold Portfolio.
