REVELATION [= Latin: Apocalypsis] 21:12-22:21. “The Alpha & the Omega” (22:13). Printed in Basel, Switzerland, by Johann Froben, October 27, 1495 [= M.cccc.xcv] — colophon. Printing on one side only; ex libris on the other side. Octavo size: 5.75″ x 4.25″. One of the very earliest printed octavo Bibles, as handy for travel as the popular “pocket bibles” of the 13th century. Reference: Goff B598; GW 4275. Ruled in Red. With one hand-painted initial in RED. FINE- condition; minor soiling; small hole at lower part of leaf; the outer edge is reinforced, with contemporary writing by a likely previous owner (see pics). COA on premium “gold leaf” paper [two types included: one matte gold, one bright gold; I could not decide!] with gold seal and signature. Includes “Origins of the Vulgate Bible” with an English translation of some important verses. This is the “colophon” leaf that predates title pages and includes the date and publisher of this edition. Some verses in 22:6-21 are here translated on the COA.
