Publisher: Gerard de Jode. Reference: New Hollstein 1.2 (van den Broeck); Hollstein 66 (van den Broeck). Cut to the plate and pasted onto heavier laid paper; lightly washed to simulate antiquity. Clean and sharp impression. Number 1 on the plate, in a series of 8 plates in the series “Creation of the World and of Man”, and printed in de Jode’s 1585 Thesaurus sacrarum historiarum Veterus et Novi Testamenti from which this plate came. Engraving size: 10.2″ x 7.5″. From the story in Genesis 1. As the first engraving in de Jode’s masterpiece, it is prone to heavy use and deterioration; but not so with this impression! This superb engraving was exhibited at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, Salem, OR, as part of the Exhibit “Holy Beauty” from Feb-Apr, 2018, and is framed exactly as in that Exhibit. COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature, affixed to the back of the frame.
Engraving is set in a museum-quality, matte black metal frame, with conservation matting and UV glass. Frame measures 18″ x 14″ x 1.2″.
