Original engravers: Hieronymus/Jerome Wierix (signature, pl.1); Antonius/Antonio Wierix (signature, pl.3). Original publisher: Gerard de Jode (signature). Reference: Hollstein 53.1 – 56.1 (de Vos). Excellent overall, plates are quite clean, detailed, sharp impressions; uncut plates with full margins on fine laid paper. Lower margins of three plates with older repairs to lower edge. Numbered 206-209 in pen just above the plate line, upper right. Plate/Engraving size: 9.75″ x 7.5″. Full, uncut sheet: 13.5″ x 11″. Richly detailed. This iconic series, based on the Book of Jonah, with plates 2 and 3 depicting the iconic “Great Fish.”
