Description
“Moses & Aaron Before Pharaoh” plate 2. FIRST STATE. From Gerard de Jode’s monumental Thesaurus Sacrarum historiarum Veteris et Novi Testamentum, published in 1585. Conceptual Artist: M. van Cleve. Engraver: J. Wierix (see monogram). Publisher: G. de Jode. Reference: Hollstein 32.1 (Wierix). Image is unmounted on laid paper, cut to the plate, 11.2″ x 7.8″. A clear and sharp impression. Light soiling at corners; older repair of a closed tear, 1″ at center top edge (unnoticable from front); remains of previous mounting tape at top edge; signs of previous creases (unnoticable from front). A nice example of Netherlandish engraving in its heyday, the scene taken from Exodus 7.
Engraving and COA set in a medium sized museum-quality Bifold Portfolio of linen cloth and silk moire, within archival sleeves; COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature.
