Description
“RESURRECTION OF LAZARUS”. SECOND STATE, Printed in G. de Jode’s monumental Thesaurus Novi Testamenti, 1585. Conceptual Artist: Gerard van Groenning. Engraver: Johannes Wierix. Publisher: Gerard de Jode. Reference: New Hollstein 69.2 (Groenning). Image cut to plate and pasted onto heavier laid paper, 11.2″ x 8″; full margins 13″ x 10″. A clean and sharp impression, lightly “washed” to simulate antiquity (a normal process). No. 75 in pen, below plate line, bottom right. A fine example of Netherlandish engraving in its heyday, nicely detailed. The scene is from the story in John 11.
Engraving and COA set in a large museum-quality Bifold Portfolio of linen cloth and silk moire, within archival sleeves; COA on premium “gold leaf” paper with gold seal and signature.
If purchased in conjunction with “Resurrection of the Son of the Widow of Nain,” the two engravings will be set in a landscape portfolio, and the COAs set in a Bifold Portfolio. Total for the set: $800.
