1758 Book of Common Prayer (1758) w. Whole Book of Psalms (1757); all title pages intact w. engraving of the King, repaired (see pics). Octavo. Set of 48 copper plate illustrations of NT scenes, Apostles, and English history (Peakes publ.). Bossings, clasps, and center monograms (scrolling initials d. 1761), 11 pieces in all; one clasp closes, the other is missing. Untested metal, possibly silver. Original leather, dark brown; debossing around center initials. Binding tight; repaired spine. Clean pages w. gilted edges, now fading. One engraving is cut at top and bottom plate lines, probably to remove writing in margins. Handwritten notations indicate ownership by Alice Johnson 1773, and a gift from Thomas Johnson to his son Johns Johnson (undated). A fine little BCP with early provenance.
